The summer months are the perfect time for a bit of a celebration which is probably why they will be packed with everything from weddings to parties. And I’m not talking about kids parties where you will end up covered with sticky chocolate fingers and ice cream. I’m talking about the kind of do’s where you get to don your prettiest frocks and a pair of heels and celebrate in style.

Not always the easiest though when you are sporting a growing bump or trying to discreetly feed your baby. I’ve experienced both and I know how I struggled to find an outfit for friends weddings both when pregnant and afterwards. I just felt a bit ‘blurgh’ when I wanted to feel all glowy and lovely.

Fear not though, as we are here to help with our roundup of our favourite outfits for weddings, christenings or just a good old garden party. And if you are looking for a non maternity outfit for a wedding then head over to Rock My Style later this week where Lorna is sharing her favourite finds.

The choice of maternity dresses across the high street is actually fantastic. There are so many available and many in the same styles and designs as the non-maternity versions. It definitely means there is a lot of choice. I shared a few suggestions a little while back but this post is dedicated purely to all things ‘posh frock’. It’s also worth bearing in mind how many occasions you have in which to where the outfit as that might mean you opt for something you can dress down afterwards. Also, do check out eBay or second hand shops as you can pick up lovely Isabella Oliver dresses and the likes for a snip of the price.

Pastel

I love a spot of pastel shades for a summer wedding and this Chi Chi london crochet dress ticks all my boxes. It’s in the prettiest pink, has beautiful crochet fabric and has a bit of detail in the back. It’s also not too short.

Carrying on my love of pale pink is this v-neck three quarter sleeve dress from H&M. H&M is winning again with the cheery blue strap dress.

For a more muted tone but with a touch of sparkle I really like the simple style of this metallic grey belted dress from New Look.

The colour of this pale blue cold shoulder dress from ASOS is just gorgeous.

This sunny yellow dot dress has a gorgeous relaxed vibe but would look great with a tailored jacket and heels but equally could be dressed down with sandals for other occasions.

Floral

On the floral front there are a multitude of options. This soft floral cross back dress from ASOS is so pretty with it’s little button details. It’s looks a really comfy fit and style too which is always a bonus.

Boohoo has some great dresses and this midi floral print cold shoulder dress comes in black or white.

Going with a bolder colour I adore this red handkerchief maxi dress from Topshop. It would be perfect for breastfeeding too due to the buttons down the front.

Classic

If you are a classic girl at heart I love a spot of navy and this frill sleeved dress from Next caught my eye. A flattering shape in a simple style is a great piece to have in your maternity wardrobe.

For a similar style but with a lace fabric have a look at this one from H&M or for more navy lace this Topshop Fan dress has so much gorgeous detailing.

A bargain £12 gets you a simple off the shoulder bardot dress from Boohoo. At that price you can have one in every colour! I also love the colour of this bandeau frill maxi from Topshop.

There’s no reason you can’t go for a more relaxed jersey dress, like this spot number from H&M, and just dress it up a bit. It means you will get lots of wear afterwards.

Also this green cut out sleeve dress from Topshop is such a gorgeous rich colour. I love it.

Glam

There might be times when glam is required. Maybe you are a bridesmaid or a spot of sparkle is in order. This gorgeous grey ASOS maxi dress has the prettiest beading over the top and sleeves.

Can we talk about how stunning this Maya maternity dress is? Soft tulle skirt and the sparkliest sequin long sleeved top. It’s divine.

This powder pink maxi dress from New Look would make a gorgeous bridesmaid dress with it’s soft frills and pretty v back.

Nursing

If you are looking for a nursing dress or one you can wear both pre and post birth then this scallop dress from ASOS fits the bill. It has a double layer design and is in the prettiest blush pink.

A wrap dress is always a good option for feeding and I really like the simple silhouette and classic floral pattern on this New Look Kimono dress.

This classic swing dress from Jo Jo Maman could work for multiple occasions as well as for the office afterwards and it has a clever top that allows you to breastfeed easily.

For a different colour this Cedar dress from Mamalicious is great with it’s clever hidden panels for breastfeeding.

Finally this navy skater style dress has a simple shape but the scallop edging adds just the right amount of detail.

Separates

There is also nothing that says you have to go for a dress. More and more people opt for separates or trousers for occasions.

I love a tulle skirt and this powder blue one from ASOS is so pretty. It fits over the bump so it should be nice and comfy. Pair it with a pretty cami or a bardot style lace top.

A jumpsuit is an excellent option. I think this culotte style from Next would look great with a pair of heels and some long layered necklaces. How about pairing some smart trousers with a cute cami for a dressy look but with pieces you can easily wear again. You could even opt for some amazing floral trousers which could be worn afterwards with a simple white t-shirt.
