Getting your littles to sleep is never an easy task. Sometimes they sleep, others they don’t but the key is to find what works for you. One area that can help is the lighting levels in the room. The RMF team generally favoured pitch black for bedtimes. Lolly literally covers every possible light source to ensure Hector gets a good night sleep. I’ve done both. When the girls were tiny we attempted to keep the rooms really dark with blackout blinds and doors firmly closed. As they got a bit bigger we added various projectors and soothing friends and then now they are in and out of their own bed we like to make sure there is a little light on to avoid night time tumbles or falls down the stairs.

Molly has also become quite adamant that a light stays on (all night). I get told off in the morning if I’ve snuck up and turned it off. It also appears that she has developed a bit of night time worry as when I was putting her to bed she said ‘make sure you leave the light on so I can see if any tigers sneak in to my cupboard!’. Bless her.

Whether you favour the pitch black or a nightlight there is still a need for a bit of soft light in some capacity – from night feeds to calming stories. So we thought we’d share some of our favourite lights for children’s rooms to provide you with a bit of inspiration.

Gro Light

If you are after a simple night light for a nursery then the Gro Egg comes highly recommended. It also has a built in thermometer for checking the room’s temperature so you are crossing two nursery essentials off in one. Plus you can buy a variety of different toppers to turn it in to a cute animal friend.

Toadstool Lamp

This lovely little light gets switched on in Hector’s nursery after bath time. It lets out little streams of light so it’s a much gentler light and the perfect amount for ‘down time’.

Woodland Rabbit

How adorable. This little rabbit lets out a really soft glow, Molly seemed to like it and it’s an absolute steal at £4.95. It’s also battery operated in case your little ones bed isn’t close to a plug socket. If you prefer a plug in light then This Modern Life also have the adorable ceramic rabbit version.

Miffy

I have coveted this Miffy floor lamp for Molly’s room for a long time now but always been a bit put off by the price. One day it may well get purchased though and I really probably should buy it whilst she is still small. Well that’s what I’ll tell the husband!!

Slumber Buddy

Both Becky and I had slumber buddy’s. Molly had a turtle and Becky has really enjoyed having the elephant slumber buddy in Leo’s room. The light reflects stars, planets and the moon onto the ceiling. You can set the colours to change or to stay on one of 3 colours. You can also choose to have lullabies playing too… although Becky always thought the quietest setting was a bit loud but it was comforting up until a certain point. That point being when Leo figured out he could change the music and then it just became an additional distraction, but great up until that point!

Ewan The Dream Sheep

A lot of mums rave about Ewan! The cute little sheep includes actual womb and heartbeat recordings to calm babies and toddlers, helping them go to sleep. It also has a soothing pink glow which gives a reassuring glimmer of light as littles drift off to sleep.

Mood light

This cute light comes in either a dog, cat or bear. The light slowly changes colour and is wireless so can sit anywhere. It’s 20cm tall so it will sit substantially in the nursery and make a lovely addition in the day time too as it’s white when not lit.

The White Company

The White Company have some really fun bedside lights that would be ideal in a nursery or children’s room. I love this cute aeroplane design (it’s currently in the sale too) but there is also a pirate ship or castle to choose from. These are a bit more pricey but I’m confident the littles will love them.

Clouds

Ikea can always be relied on for some great value lighting options. This cloud ceiling light is really fun and a bargain at £14. It comes in a variety of colours and there is also a matching table lamp available. It casts sweet little cloud patterns on to the walls which is sure to be a winner.

Deer

I’m a big fan of Ferm Living for everything from their fabulous wallpapers to cute cushions. This deer wall light is so adorable and with a soft bulb it would be ideal for story time or middle of the night feeds when they are little. I love the wood but they also come in a range of colours including the softest mint green. If you love this you should also have a peek at the other designs. There is a tree, a fox and a car amongst others.

So there are our favourites. The question is do you keep a little light in the room or prefer the pitch black to get your little’s to sleep?
