If you saw my home tour over on Rock My Style you will know I have a bit of a love affair with wallpaper. I just adore how it can transform a room and all you need is one roll on one wall to really make an impact.

Kids wallpapers are some of my favourites as there are some great designs and patterns out there to brighten up a nursery or little ones room. You can tailor it to be suitable for a baby, a bit more grown up or I personally think it you choose wisely most will last for many years to come. The wallpaper in what is now Alice’s room has been up for over 4 years and we still love it just as much as when we first put it up.

You can opt for fun bright patterns or more subtle prints and muted colours. Either will allow you to create a unique look that the littles will love. I will say here that some of my favourite papers are a tad pricey but the patterns are amazing and you often only need one roll. Equally you can pick up some great designs for a tenner in B&Q. The choice is yours.

I have absolutely loved putting together this list of the best wallpapers for children and even better I’m also sharing my favourite wallpapers for the rest of the house over on Rock My Style today too. I may now need to redecorate EVERYWHERE.

Imagination

When it comes to children’s rooms you can really have some fun. Use patterns and prints that will spark their imagination to encourage storytelling and make believe play.

What little one wouldn’t love to hang out in tepees all day long and this Ferm Living Natives wallpaper is the ideal backdrop. Adorned with hand drawn teepees, arrows and feathers it is just so much fun.

I have a new wallpaper crush in the form of Hibou Home. They have the most wonderfully whimsical patterns and this In to the wild wallpaper is an absolute dream. In amongst block prints of trees roam delicately detailed line drawn animals. Yes it is expensive at £70 but worth it in my book. I am trying not to look at all their other prints for fear I may make one too many purchases.

Mini Moderns are one of my favourite brands of wallpaper and I have a number of their prints in my house. They have a mid century feel and colour palette which I love. At £45 a roll they are mid range in price but have the look and quality of a much more expensive paper. This beautiful Carousel design would be ideal in a little girls rooms.

With teddy bears and little kites this Ferm Living Kite wallpaper is an adorable addition to any room.

My nephew has this Katie Bourne Cluck a Doodle Farm wallpaper and it is so cute. Any farm mad child will love it and the soft colour palette means it works in either a nursery or childrens room.

If your littles dream of adventures in space then this Paperboys Final Frontier Alien wallpaper is for you. Fun and quirky in it’s design it is a definite winner.

This Sanderson Treasure Map wallpaper is sure to be a hit with little treasure hunters as they follow the map to hunt their treasure. The black and white version would be perfect for colouring in if you are happy to let them loose with the crayons.

Dinosaurs will always remain a popular choice and this Harlequin Jolly Jurassic design contains all their favourites whilst remaining stylish enough for parents to enjoy too.

Animals & Birds

There is nothing sweeter than a little animal print for a nursery or children’s room. Safari animals, tweety birds or a cute little rabbit. They are by far and away my top choice.

Sanderson are renowned for lovely quality papers and this Two by Two design has a timeless appeal. Available in a range of colour ways I think this would be a firm favourite.

This beautiful Kerry Caffyn Animal Alphabet wallpaper has the loveliest illustrations of animals nestled amongst letters to create a wallpaper that is both educational and fun.

Do I need to say more than Flamingos. Bright and fun this would be ideal in a little girls room for £28 a roll.

Can we just talk about how amazing the new Eef Lillemor wallpaper designs are. You may be familiar with their designs as their prints adorn many a nursery on Pinterest. Panda or Koala? Or maybe the rabbit. Too much cuteness.

This Scion Animal print paper is so much fun. Bright birds sit alongside lions and elephants and I’m sure it will give hours of fun and amusement as the kids grow up and find their favourites.

I may be slightly biased here but I LOVE this Ferm Living owl wallpaper. We have it in the nursery, shown in the slider above, and put it up when it was Molly’s room. Four years later we can’t bare to change it. It is just such a fun print. Yes, it’s pricey at £65 but I used just one roll and it has been fabulous.

This Little Deer print is a snip at just £12 a roll from B&Q. So sweet and undeniably girly.

Pattern

As you know from above I have a lot of love for Ferm Living products. This is another favourite wallpaper in their classic Half Moon design available at This Modern Life. It is the sort of design that would work in a nursery or a young childs room and allows you to style it in a multitude of ways.

Mamas and Papas continue to roll out some really great graphic prints and this bright Stars wallpaper would look super fun in a nursery.

Chevron designs are sticking around and I think this blue design from B&Q would be great for boys or girls. They have styled it with co-ordinating boats but I rather like it just on it’s own.

The Farg Form Clouds is a pattern that a lot of the team love. Such a simple yet bold pattern it comes in a variety of colour ways and on a variety of products. Charlotte had the changing mat in the grey print and I love the wallpaper just as much. Molly would probably opt for the pink colour option I’m sure!

I love this Scion rain cloud design. Yet another fantastic pattern from this brand and such a simple but sweet design. It has a slight Scandi colour palette but at a much lower price than other brands.

As much as I love the new Eef Lillemor designs for 2016 their existing range just ooze cuteness. The sweetest ice creams, clouds or cactus all in their signature pastel shades.

We do love feathers here at RMF and I’m half tempted to add this Casadeco Red Indian feather wallpaper elsewhere in the house too.

Characters

I am not the biggest fan of character prints in bedrooms. I see enough of Peppa Pig in the daytime. That said some of my greatest childhood memories were when my mum relented and let me and my sister decorate our bedroom with Snatch the Dog (am I showing my age?!) borders, curtains and duvets. Or my favourite Strawberry shortcake and My Little Pony bedding sets that my Aunty bought all the way from America.

My girls love Julia Donaldson and actually this Grufflo paper from B&Q is really rather lovely. With all the favourite characters but in a small repeat pattern it would work well in a woodland inspired bedroom that littles will adore.

I have seen many nurseries decorated with gorgeous Roald Dahl prints. From curtains to paper these timeless Matilda and Golden Ticket wallpapers feature classic illustrations that children big and small will love them for years. Plus they are only £12 a roll so you can afford to do a larger area.

What young boy, or girl for that matter, wouldn’t love this Marvel wallpaper. Yes it is bold and yes it is brash but that is the appeal. B&Q have also just introduced a colour in Marvel version which would be super fun in a playroom.

And then of course there are Wall stickers but I’ll save that post for another day!
